Welcome to my academic homepage! My name is Liam Roy, and I am a researcher affiliated with the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) at OISE, University of Toronto. My academic journey is driven by a deep interest in sustainability, environmental education, and circular economies. Through my work at OISE, I explore the intersections of community-led practices and resource conservation, aiming to understand how localized systems can be leveraged to foster sustainable consumption and reduce waste.

My recent research focuses on the mechanics of textile sustainability and the optimization of secondhand clothing networks. Alongside my co-authors, Anika Kozlowski, Rachel McQueen, and Charlotte Little, I have investigated how decentralized networks can extend the lifecycle of garments and maximize value retention. This collaborative effort has resulted in several publications, including our paper "Hyper-Local Recirculation of Second-hand Clothing Through Donation-Thrift Networks" for the PLATE2025 conference, and our 2026 article, "Local loops, longer lives: Value retention in decentralized secondhand clothing thrift networks," published in Resources, Conservation and Recycling.
